This post is a bit quite late because my family and I watched Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince at the new IMAX cinema of SM North EDSA last July 18.
A week before our preferred screening schedule, I called up SM IMAX to reserve the tickets. We were lucky that we were able to get good seats. I was given our seat numbers and the booking number. The following day, I paid our reservation at the SM Megamall Cinema Administration Office. I was given an official receipt and I was instructed to show the receipt to the SM North EDSA Cinema ticketing staff.
Since it was a Saturday, the line queued in front of the ticket booth was unbelievable. Fortunately, the IMAX security guard advised me to just go to the side and call the attention of the ticketing staff. True enough, after a few minutes of confirming our reservation, they gave us our tickets.
It wasn't my first time to watch in an IMAX cinema. I have already watched Happy Feet at the SM Mall of Asia IMAX. It was a surprise to see that the screen was only around 3/4 of the size of the IMAX cinema in SM Mall of Asia in terms of height.. It was wider though and, because the cinema had just opened two days before our scheduled screening, the seats were clean and comfy.
We were given 3D eyeglasses for the 12-minute 3d introductory scenes of the movie. We were also able to view the trailer of A Christmas Carol in 3D and Ralph and I had a good time trying to catch the falling snowflakes! After a while, I had to remove my 3D glasses and rest my eyes because I already felt nauseous from watching the 3D scenes. After the 3D scenes, it was just like watching Harry Potter from a regular cinema. We paid 400 bucks for each ticket which was just a peso cheaper than the Ultra Seven tickets we bought minus the unlimited popcorn and soda. In fairness, I find consolation in the fact that they allow phone in reservations unlike in Eastwood Cinemas.
SM IMAX is in the second level of SM North EDSA's main mall. For ticket inquiries or reservations, call 929-5452, 924-4274, or 442-0061. Payments should be made a day before the scheduled screening.
